The Motherwort herb is especially aligned with the healing of women – hence the name. However, that is not to say it cannot be an extremely beneficial herb for men too. It was used by the Ancient Greeks to soothe anxiety in pregnant women and for what we now know as post-natal depression. Common medicinal uses include: a cardiovascular tonic, to regulate menstruation, soothe menstrual cramps, relieve premenstrual tension and discomfort, to ease labour pains, to help the uterus relax and return to normal, as an anti-depressant, antispasmodic and nervine. Motherwort has a bitter taste.
